Sunset Hills Vineyard

If you’re looking for that quintessential Loudoun afternoon—the one that actually makes the property taxes feel worth it—get yourself out to Sunset Hills. I stopped by this past weekend and it was exactly the reset I needed. We caught some live music by Bill Schro, and honestly, he was the highlight. He has this soulful, easy-going sound that just fits the hills perfectly. He does some great covers (I’m always a sucker for his take on “Into the Mystic”), but his original “Floating Upstream” was the perfect soundtrack for a Saturday with a glass in hand. You can find his schedule at schro-music.com or follow him on Instagram—he’s definitely worth a follow.

I love that they aren’t trying to be something they’re not here. They do 100% Virginia wine—vine to glass, grown right here in our local soil. It’s award-winning stuff that actually tastes like the care they put into it, but what really stuck with me is their “Greater Good” mission. The entire place is solar-powered, and they are huge on philanthropy and giving back to the community. It’s rare to find a spot this beautiful that’s also this focused on doing the right thing; it almost makes that second bottle feel like a win for everyone.

The tasting room itself is a stunning, restored Amish barn, but the move is to grab a bottle and head straight for the deck. When they say “Uncork A Great Sunset,” they aren’t kidding. Watching the sky turn purple over the mountains while Bill’s guitar drifted across the breeze was one of those “only in Loudoun” moments. It is the absolute best way to wind down a weekend.
